Q & A

At DT Air Conditioning and Heating we realize the commitment you are making when you are trusting the investment of your A/C and heating system to the care of a stranger. For that very reason, we don't want to be a stranger to you. We want you to be fully knowledgeable of not only the services we are providing, but also in the complete functionality of your system. Below you will find some of the most common questions we hear during our daily routine. If you have any further questions or would like to schedule a service call please contact us at your convenience by calling 972-633-9343 or you may also request services from this site.

Q. Exactly, how does my A/C system work?

A. An air conditioning system is actually designed with two separate units which make a unique partnership to provide you the ultimate comfort throughout your home. On the outside of the home, the outdoor coil contains a liquid refrigerant that is distributed over the cool located indoors. As the refrigerant moves throughout the two coils, the heat and humidity are removed from the air and your comfort is maintained by cooling the house.

Q. How do I know I am receiving the most efficient results from my system?

A. The efficiency of your heating and cooling system is determined by a ratio standard established by the EPA known as "SEER" or Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio. As governmental regulations states the "SEER" rating of an A/C system must meet a minimum standard of 10.0 as of 1992. For an air conditioning system to be considered "high efficiency" the "SEER" rating must be between 12.0-20.0 "SEER". At DT Air Conditioning and Heating you can be rest assured that we will custom design an A/C system perfect to your needs and financial budget.

Q. What elements contribute to my home's comfort levels?

A. There are four factors which play a vital role to your overall comfort. If one has been compromised in any way, the results will be a loss in efficiency in your air conditioning and heating system.

1. Temperature- To the consumer temperature is the beginning and the end of discussion when the comfort is the concern. However, in reality temperature is only the beginning. At DT Air Conditioning and Heating we will recommend a heating and cooling system customized to your needs.

2. Clean and Fresh Air- A dusty home can drastically affect not only the efficiency of your system but also your comfort. You can always rely on the professionals at DT Air Conditioning and Heating to suggest an air cleaner designed by TRANE or Carrier that will bring exceptional results especially for those who suffer from allergies and asthma.

3. Humidity- As a Texas resident we are well aware of the harsh and constant changes in humidity. During the winter months when the air is dry, static electricity and dry itchy skin are always an issue. If you add humidity then you remove the uncomfortable feelings of dry skin. In the summer months if the humidity is removed then the air becomes less sticky and the summers in Texas become more enjoyable and your comfort is restored.

4. System Control- When talking to clients, we often hear the same complaint of inconsistent temperatures from room to room, in which they are constantly having to adjust the thermostat to accommodate the temperature throughout the house. A digital thermostat which self-adjusts by programming will not only balance the air but also provide a consistent comfort schedule that will distribute air evenly regardless of which room you are occupying. At DT Air Conditioning and Heating, we will recommend a thermostat perfectly designed for your needs and customized to suit the size of your home. For example, the XL Comfort series by TRANE is a perfect choice regardless of the size of your home.

Q. What is an air to air heat pump?

A. Plainly stated, an air to air heat pump has the capability of reversing it's cycle to provide heating in the winter and cooling in the summer. This "switching" mechanism is designed to remove the natural heat from outdoors and bring it inside in the winter. Due to the fact that the air source is not actually creating heat, but moving it from one place to another, a heat pump can be an extremely cost effective solution opposed to an electrically powered system which does generate heat. If you would like to schedule a consultation regarding your heating alternatives please do not hesitate to contact DT Air Conditioning and Heating at 972-633-9343 or you may request services from this site.

Q. What is the cause for a condensation leak problem?

A. The evaporator or cooling coil is located in the unit inside the home. As it creates condensation by removing moisture from the air a drain pan will normally collect the water. However, if the drain line becomes clogged, then a leak occurs from the overflow. Some causes for a drain line to become clogged include algae build-up, crimped lines, settled wood platforms, snakes or other animals or just bad system maintenance.

Q. How is used energy measured?

A. Energy of a gas or oil furnace is calculated on a rating scale known as AFUE or Annual Fuel Utilization Efficiency. Just as your car measures fuel use by a miles per gallon, AFUE determines the efficiency of your furnace by converting fuel to heat. For example an AFUE of 90% means that 90% of the fuel is utilized to heat your home. So, where does the remaining 10% go, one might ask? It goes up the chimney and is wasted. As of 1992, a governmental standard was instated that established a minimum AFUE in new homes must be a minimum of 78%. A furnace that has an AFUE of between 78-80% is considered "mid-efficient. A furnace with an AFUE of 90% or greater are considered "high-efficient". The maximum of an AFUE is at 96.6%. Heat pumps are required to maintain efficiency ratings known as HSPF or Heating Seasonal Performance Factor. The higher the HSPF the less electricity is required to heat your home. A furnace must have a minimum of 6.8 HSPF. A "high efficiency" unit must be between 7.5 and a maximum of 10.0. At DT Air conditioning And Heating, Inc. we will make sure you are fully educated so that you can determine the system best suited to your needs.
